- Have an idea for strengthening basic needs at UCSC?
We are interested in funding creative student-driven projects that address students’ basic needs and have the potential to advance economic, food, and housing justice for all UCSC students.
Projects seeking to enhance the food, housing, and physical, emotional, spiritual, and environmental wellbeing of UCSC students will be considered. We welcome a broad range of projects and activities including:
-
- research to better understand students’ needs and develop and/or strengthen programs related to basic needs
- projects and/or activities that expand current basic needs services
- projects and/or activities that connect students with basic needs resources
- Be creative and propose your idea by December 2, 2020.
ELIGIBILITY
-
- The project must be completed between January 1, 2021 and June 30, 2021.
- Applicants must be a current UCSC undergraduate or graduate student and be in residence during the 2019-20 academic year.
- Individuals, student teams, and student groups/organizations may apply.
ASSESSMENT OF PROPOSALS
- Applications will be reviewed by a committee of Blum Center faculty, staff, and students. All proposals should include a carefully designed research or implementation plan, a description of the proposed project’s impact, anticipated challenges, and a discussion of how the project will advance students’ basic needs. Preference will be given to projects that are conducted in partnership with a campus unit (e.g., Slug Support). A letter of support from your campus partner should be submitted with your application.
REQUIREMENTS
- Prior to receiving funds, all awardees must attend a meeting with other awardees to share their ideas and receive technical support if needed. Awardees will give a presentation about their project in spring quarter 2021 and provide two blog entries regarding their project’s progress. We ask that you acknowledge the Blum Center in any publications, advertisements, promotional materials, or public statements.
BUDGET
